How to Keep Score in Softball
Softball uses a cumulative run total like baseball, but a regulation international game is seven innings. Local youth and recreational leagues often use time limits or shorter games.

How softball scoring works
- 01
Add one run when a runner legally reaches home plate.
- 02
The visiting team bats in the top half and the home team in the bottom half.
- 03
Carry the total through seven innings unless a run-ahead or local time rule ends play.
- 04
If tied after regulation, continue under the competition’s extra-inning procedure.
